Beer has been around for tens of thousands of years. For the most part, humanity and hops have co-existed nicely. But then there are those with a passion for “why?” to everything. You know, like the bachelor biologist who had identified 123 different ways of making love but never had a girlfriend.
Last month Indiana University released their beer studies of 50 young male volunteers. The mission? What is there about beer that makes people crave it? In this case versus Gatorade which the volunteers enjoyed but did not end up craving.
Like the Cavalry, it was Dopamine to the rescue…! The research team found beer contains certain chemicals — other than alcohol — which trigger that great motivator Dopamine and its feel-good qualities. For alcoholics, even a sniff of beer is enough to ignite their Dopamine.
