According to the 2012 edition of the Princeton Review survey of “The Best 376 Colleges,” Illinois’ own Wheaton College has the best campus food in the country.
Sugar Buzz Chicago found out some reasons why:
- The chefs at Wheaton are committed to local, responsible sourcing, scratch- cooking and healthy preparation methods.
- They cook everything from scratch and never use processed foods.
- The kitchen makes their own yogurt and sour cream using milk from nearby Kilgus Farmstead.
- The salad bar is stocked with lots of healthy goodies, including local lettuce varieties, quinoa, teff and spelt.
Unfortunately, in the same survey Wheaton was also ranked as the least tolerant college for gays and lesbians.
