Gratitude is the act of being thankful and appreciating what you have in your life. You can have gratitude for multiple things big or small. Our default is to focus on what is wrong. To practice gratitude, you may need to shift your mindset. Gratitude allows you to focus on the positive aspects of your situation. It can help you be optimistic in difficult situations. You do not have to ignore problems in your life; however, gratitude allows you to keep positive in negative situations. It will help you see the good on the other side.
Studies show that people who practice gratitude are healthier. They have less inflammation, depression, and lower blood pressure. Gratitude helps with stress. Stress can have a negative impact on the immune system, so practicing gratitude can improve your immune system. Gratitude can assist with reducing negative emotions and allows you to think clearly to make sound decisions. Gratitude can help reduce anxiety. It can also help make your relationships stronger. People like it when you are grateful for them.
How do you practice gratitude? There are multiple ways you can practice gratitude. You can practice gratitude through prayer. Praying can create feelings of gratitude by allowing you to appreciate your existence and recognizing that there is a higher power who loves you. You can journal about the things you are grateful for in your life. If journaling does not work for you try a gratitude jar. Place sheets of paper listing the things you appreciate. Then you can go back and read the sheets to encourage you. I have a cousin that placed sticky notes in her basement showing gratitude. Volunteering can assist with gratitude. Volunteering helps you remember the things you should appreciate. You can use positive affirmations to practice gratitude. For example, in the morning you can express gratitude for another day.
Whatever method you use to practice gratitude make sure the method is comfortable for you. You do not want to do anything that makes you feel pressured. You should find a method or methods that you can do on a consistent basis.
