Biggest Decision I've Made - Moving Back to Chicago
I decided to go for my Ph.D at Loyola University in Chicago in 1986 – 1991. You think that was a big deal? I had been living in Chico, CA for 10 years. This town of 50,000 (at the time, now 100,000) was a university town. Right up against the mountains and creeks, where we’d... Read more »
Women With Heartaches on Mother's Day
This is blog below, I wrote 4 years ago May 2013. It’s still very timely – which I hope all of us can appreciate. “Hallmark Cards and 1800 Flowers (thank you Mike and Mike in the Morning) has greatly expanded the meaning of “Mothers’ Day,” to become the most profitable of “holidays” each year. Your... Read more »
What, Me Worry?
So today’s Blogging hour topic: what did you used to worry about, but don’t anymore? Well……………. I used to worry if I was going to get pregnant again, after having a “blighted ovum miscarriage” at 7 weeks pregnant. But then I had another son 11 months later, on Christmas Eve. I used to worry about... Read more »

I'm Scared. Are You?
Since Trump’s election for the Presidency, there have been over 700 hate crimes reported to the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), (CNN, 11/21/16). The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) and the SPLC together, report a 67% increase in Hate Crimes against Muslims, Blacks, Jewish People, and the GLBT groups (CNN, 11/19/16) since Trump’s candidacy. Students in a... Read more »
What I'd Like A Second Chance At? Filing a Sexual Harassment Suit
The Chair of my Department was going after me. I could not prove anything, because there were no cameras to film his activity. But I knew it was him. And I had plenty of colleagues who supported me, and agreed with my reasoning – thankfully. Dr. “W” was sleeping with three students, one of whom... Read more »
Laddy back in the Saddle, Stan the Man, Bowling like Walter and the Dude
The Great: 1. Blackhawks got out of their slump, and beat the Caps. I love seeing Ovechkin denied, and hope to see it again this June at the United Center. Just like Stamkos was denied even one goal, by our Stanley Cup Champion Blackhawks, last year in the finals. 2. Stan Bowman, period. He’s the... Read more »

Blackhawks, Kasich, Being Sick in Bed, White Sox, Flint's Worsening Water
The Great: 1. The Blackhawks have 3 days off to get their shit together. Bowman has less than a week to sign an offensive player. Good luck with that. 2. I got a call today, on my personal cell phone, from the White Sox office. Yeah – I’m good with one of the VP’s staff,... Read more »
Blackhawks Lay an Egg As Trump and Hillary Win their Primaries
The Great: 1. The Alumni game between the Chicago Blackhawks and Minnesota North Stars put on a show for hockey fans. Seeing Jeremy Roenick and Troy Murray on the ice was awesome. 2. Hillary won Nevada with a majority support of Hispanics and Blacks. A New York Times analysis fully covers the disputed Hispanic exit... Read more »
Chicago Sports Keep Me Sane - and Laughing.
The Great: 1. Golden State lost big last night. 5 losses now. I’m probably the only person in Northern California who does not want to see the Bulls 72-10 record beaten. 2. Derek Rose actually scored 28 and 26 points in last two games. 3. Blackhawks and USAWarriors were together on the ice today. Pretty... Read more »

Blackhawks, Obama, Supreme Court, and My Life
The Great: 1. Blackhawks go to the White House and honored by the Prez. For a third time. A Hat Trick for all. 2. Blackhawks playing an outdoor game this Sunday at the U of Minnesota Gopher Stadium. 3. I was in Chicago and DC for 3 weeks, visiting my family. I got to hold... Read more »

Meet The Blogger

Dr. Janice Gagerman
My brother put a mitt in my hand at 5 years old, and the rest was history. Grew up on 89th and Clyde near CVS. I sat shot-gun in my father's taxi cab, listening to Sox and Bears games on the radio. Taught my 12" softball womens' teammates how to slide into 2nd base like Aparicio. Been a Professor for 25 years but never lost my love for Sports. Raised a family, and work in my garden and orchard. I can't stand technology, but have adapted.
