The Bears and the Democrats
“The Bears and the Democrats find every opportunity to F#ck Up.” Spoken as no other: by my younger son, Ari. We were dining together in Pasadena last Thursday evening, and he never ceases to amaze me at how little he has to say, to make me nod my head up and down, with a hearty... Read more »
Biggest Decision I've Made - Moving Back to Chicago
I decided to go for my Ph.D at Loyola University in Chicago in 1986 – 1991. You think that was a big deal? I had been living in Chico, CA for 10 years. This town of 50,000 (at the time, now 100,000) was a university town. Right up against the mountains and creeks, where we’d... Read more »
Women With Heartaches on Mother's Day
This is blog below, I wrote 4 years ago May 2013. It’s still very timely – which I hope all of us can appreciate. “Hallmark Cards and 1800 Flowers (thank you Mike and Mike in the Morning) has greatly expanded the meaning of “Mothers’ Day,” to become the most profitable of “holidays” each year. Your... Read more »

I've Procrastinated for 4 years -of Getting Rid of Sh#t I Don't Need
I have so much sh#t in the house that I normally would have gotten rid of by now, that I’m almost paralyzed about it. This has to do with the most obvious: Where do I start?????? Every 2 summers for the last 15 years, I ordered two huge waste and recycling bins. Then I got... Read more »
I'm Scared. Are You?
Since Trump’s election for the Presidency, there have been over 700 hate crimes reported to the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), (CNN, 11/21/16). The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) and the SPLC together, report a 67% increase in Hate Crimes against Muslims, Blacks, Jewish People, and the GLBT groups (CNN, 11/19/16) since Trump’s candidacy. Students in a... Read more »
What I'd Like A Second Chance At? Filing a Sexual Harassment Suit
The Chair of my Department was going after me. I could not prove anything, because there were no cameras to film his activity. But I knew it was him. And I had plenty of colleagues who supported me, and agreed with my reasoning – thankfully. Dr. “W” was sleeping with three students, one of whom... Read more »

Blackhawks, Kasich, Being Sick in Bed, White Sox, Flint's Worsening Water
The Great: 1. The Blackhawks have 3 days off to get their shit together. Bowman has less than a week to sign an offensive player. Good luck with that. 2. I got a call today, on my personal cell phone, from the White Sox office. Yeah – I’m good with one of the VP’s staff,... Read more »
"I Can't Breathe": The Personal is the Political - Part II
In my previous blog, “I Can’t Breathe”:…… – Part I, I addressed how society is more accepting of issues related to professional players’ expressions of their personal and political values today, than it was in my early childhood and adult years. The following examples need reminders to the young and old. #1: 1964 Muhammed Ali... Read more »
Because of the Blackhawks: I Forgot My Birthday
I was a wreck for 6 days, beginning Tuesday, May 6th, after the Blackhawks lost Game 3 to the Wild. I know, it was said they’d lose one game in St. Paul, and come back to win the series in 5 games at the United Center. I think their beloved Minnesota Senator Paul Wellstone, came... Read more »

Meet The Blogger

Dr. Janice Gagerman
My brother put a mitt in my hand at 5 years old, and the rest was history. Grew up on 89th and Clyde near CVS. I sat shot-gun in my father's taxi cab, listening to Sox and Bears games on the radio. Taught my 12" softball womens' teammates how to slide into 2nd base like Aparicio. Been a Professor for 25 years but never lost my love for Sports. Raised a family, and work in my garden and orchard. I can't stand technology, but have adapted.
