Trump never intended to speak at the UIC Pavilion rally in Chicago

Donald Trump, agent provocateur?

Donald Trump, agent provocateur?

I know I am a bit late to this party, as the cancellation of the Trump rally last Friday night, by the candidate himself, made world news. As usually happens these days with anything Trump related, the news coverage gets skewed to make it look much worse than it is…cuz this is America, damn it, and it ain’t news if there ain’t controversy. The footage that everyone saw from the safety of our living rooms made it look like there were violent clashes between Trump supporters and anti-Trump protesters. Apparently, this was not true, according to my fellow bloggers, Jenn-Anne Gledhill and Howard Moore, who “had boots on the ground” and were actually at the rally as observers.

I would describe myself as a Jewish, female, bleeding heart liberal Democrat. I grew up in that environment and have been one since I started voting in 1972 at age 18. This will be my 12th presidential election. I have always voted Democratic and always will. Honestly, I don’t even get why women, Blacks both men and women, Hispanics, Muslims and every other minority group would vote for the GOP who has a very, very, very long tradition of the party of rich, white guys who further the rich, white guy agenda. I can say without fear of contradiction, that I have never experienced anything like this election process in all my born days. But that is not what this post is about.

There have been many, many theories swirling around the interwebs about what is really going on with Master of Ceremonies Donald J. Trump. Is he a Democrat, as he stated in 2004, who has been supported as an agent provocateur by the Clintons to bring down the GOP? Those that purport that theory are wondering if the Clintons unleashed a monster who has now taken on a life of its own that they never expected and it is too late to “reign him in.”

My hubs thinks that Trump starting his campaign as a joke and never wanted to be president, but wanted to see how outrageous he could get before his campaign fizzled out. He is making more and more preposterous statements such as the one he made in January, 2016: “I could stand on New York’s Fifth Avenue “and shoot somebody” and still not lose voters.” O.M.F.G. Did this man just say this????? The man with his tiny hand hovering over the nuclear button and in charge of the free world just said he could shoot somebody and his supporters would still think him the what?…Messiah, savior, fearless leader, Fuhrer, fascist, Il Duce. But, now he is drunk with power and realizes that he may actually fucking win, so he is going for it.

All of this leads me to my theory about what really happened last Friday night here in my home town of Chicago. In the first place, when I first heard that Trump was planning his rally at UIC Pavilion, this seemed like a very strange venue for a Trump rally…as if he were “itching for a fight” from the get-go. As many of you may or may not know, the University of Illinois on Chicago’s near southwest side is one of the most diverse campuses you could expect to find. Trump isn’t exactly popular with young immigrant students, so any sane person would expect a lot of opposition to the venue, which is exactly what happened. Something like 25,000 students signed a petition which was sent to the administration, asking that Trump be banned from holding his rally at UIC. The administration declined this request and so the many different factions organized protests for the event.

If Trump intended to have a peaceful rally, why would he not have chosen somewhere like the Rosemont Horizon or a hall in one of the suburbs which reflected the make-up of his supporters? Because, this was very well orchestrated by Trump. Thousands of Trump supporters converged on the UIC Pavilion, thousands more ant-Trump protesters flooded the UIC Pavilion inside and out. Trump never showed, but sent one of his lackeys to announce 30 minutes after the event should have started, that “he (Trump) has determined that for the safety of all of the tens of thousands of people that have gathered in and around the arena, tonight’s rally will be postponed to another date.” There were some arrests and some minor injuries, but the severity was completely blown out of proportion.

Trump takes advantage of the “hungry media beast” that can’t get enough of him as he takes to the airwaves and blames Sanders and Clinton supporters for the unrest and accuses the people of Chicago of “trampling on his First Amendment right.” He also implied that the Chicago Police Department (CPD) recommended that the rally be cancelled. Here is his post-rally cancellation interview. He says some jaw dropping things…give a listen!

None of this could be further from the truth. The CPD never once recommended that the rally be cancelled. They always maintained that they had the situation under control. Our bloggers on the inside said that there were never any confrontations until the announcement was made of the cancellation. Some of these Trump supporters came from different states, others arrived at 3am Friday morning to get in line. Ya know, if I was one of these people, I would be pretty fucking pissed off if I spent 3 1/2 hours driving to Chicago or stood in line for 12 hours and then the rally got cancelled. There were a few minor altercations, but the media grossly exaggerated the situation by referring to them as “violent clashes.”

And lastly, there is the First Amendment. Last see what it says, shall we?

The First Amendment (Amendment I) to the United States Constitution prohibits the making of any law respecting an establishment of religion, impeding the free exercise of religion, abridging the freedom of speech, infringing on the freedom of the press, interfering with the right to peaceably assemble or prohibiting the petitioning for a governmental redress of grievances.

Peaceably assemble…so when Trump says that he wants to punch protesters in the face and the crowd goes wild or he shouts to his goons, “get ’em out of here” and a black protester is wrestled to the ground and forcibly removed??? Or when he says “if you see somebody getting ready to throw a tomato, knock the crap out of ’em, would you? Seriously, Okay?” and other fun stuff, cuz everyone is just having a little harmless fun, right Mr. Trump…you aren’t inciting an atmosphere of violence, are you?
