Chicago’s children enjoyed a beautiful Bud Billiken parade in the city today, to mark the upcoming school session. This year, many children may face back-to-school jitters as their schools may have changed. The Chicago Public Schools have offered ‘safe passage’ routes for the kids to experience a safer commute to school.
But today, the upcoming school changes appeared to be the farthest thing from the children’s minds as they soaked up the sunshine and jammed along with majorettes, bands, and musical floats in one of the country’s largest, most colorful parades.
Dozens of the city’s VIPs enjoyed the parade from stadium seats erected in front of Chicago Defender offices. Guests of Michael A. House, president of the Chicago Defender newspaper, enjoyed complimentary catered food premium spirits and an inside look at Chevrolet vehicles on display.
