….with a camera of course. Over the weekend I took a trip to Lock and Dam #14 in LeClaire, Iowa, which is only about 2-3 hour drive from Chicago. Driving all that way and standing in freezing cold temps for a few hours might not sound like everyone’s cup of tea, but I promise, it’s an amazing sight.
Almost every weekend in the winter, the viewing platform is packed with people observing these majestic animals in their natural environment. To see them flying around and dive bombing into the river for fish is AWESOME. This website (link) is a great source of information regarding the # of eagles at any given dam along the Mississippi River. Take notice however, #14 is by far the best place to view Bald Eagles. People travel to this location from around the country; we Chicagoans should take advantage of having this in our own backyard.
