The Chicago Flower and Garden Show is at Navy Pier now through Sunday, March 24. The theme of this years show is “FlowerTales: The Story Grows On”– showcasing the unique stories that inspire our city and its diverse communities.
This year, the show has a marketplace vibe. Although there are around 20 gardens and displays along with the always magnificent tablescapes, there are more than 100 vendors where you’ll not only find robotic lawn mowers, bulbs, garden tools and plants for sale but a number of other items from eye creams to ceramic curling irons.
Whether you are a fan of Chicago’s Randolph Street Market or have never been, you’ll want to stop by their booth for free passes to this happening market that takes place the last weekend of the month year around in the West Loop.
Another great deal. Stop by the Chicago Tribune’s booth for free herb and flower seeds. If you buy a subscription to the print version of the Sunday Tribune for 50 cents a week for the year, you’ll get a gardening book and a gardening apron complete with gardening tools. The subscription also includes digital access.
Puffy eyes. Several booths will demonstrate their products on your eyes. Just make sure you want to buy or walk away. The “eye creams” start at $99 and go up from there.
You can get your hair curled for free and try on hair extensions at a vendor from California. If you want to try this at home expect to pay $100 for the ceramic curling iron and upwards of $300 for human hair extensions.
Need a break?
There’s an area filled with relaxing massage chairs where you can take a break. In addition there’s food and beverages for sale along with table seating in a nearby space.
The City of Chicago Dig 811 is trying to get the word out. Before you dig, call 811. They are giving out free totes and gardening gloves to help you remember.
