The Christkindlmarket with its welcoming wooden booths topped with red and white candy cane striped awnings is modeled after the original Christkinklmarket which began in 1545 in Nuremberg Germany.
The first Christkindlmarket in Chicago was a small market on Pioneer Court that started 21 years ago. The next year the market was moved to Daley Plaza where it has grown larger and more popular each year becoming a tradition for many. With, the popularity of the market, a second location was opened in Naperville and this year, the village has opened a third location in the Park at Wrigley.
Visitors can purchase hand-made holiday ornaments, nutcrackers, toys, jewelry, clothing and more while warming up with a number of food items like sausages, potato pancakes, schnitzel, German beer, mulled wine, hot chocolate, pretzels and more. There is also live entertainment and special events. We stopped by on Tuesday and took these pictures.
