Does your garden need a facelift? If you are tired of cutting the grass, using pesticides and raking leaves, there are alternatives.
Yesterday “Go Green Wilmette” presented what has become their annual (since 2013) Go Green ‘Alternative Yard’ tour–part of a year round effort that offers educational seminars, film showings, book discussions, and gatherings and activities to improve the environment.
Eight gardens were featured on the free walk/bike/drive that showcased ideas any gardener can incorporate in their own yard.
Highlights included native plants and perennials, rain gardens (to mitigate flooding), vegetable gardens, composting and habitat for birds.
The environmentally-friendly gardens use as few chemicals as possible, rain barrels for watering, electric mowers and utilize their own compost.
