Picture Lula Café, Honey Butter Fried Chicken, Girl and the Goat, Intro, North Pond, The Publican, Swift & Sons, Travelle, Bessy Q, The Peninsula, Green River, Mercat A La Planxa, Frontera Grill/Topolobampo and about 100 other of Chicago’s top restaurants side by side. No fighting Chicago traffic, trying to find parking or waiting weeks, sometimes months for reservations.

If this sounds too good to be true, you may be surprised that is exactly what’s been happening at the Green City Market Chef BBQ for the past 15 years.

The elegant “picnic” in picturesque Lincoln Park with over 100 of the city’s rock star chefs, award-winning restaurants along with many of the Midwest’s best breweries, distilleries, wineries, and mixologists will be celebrating its 16th year next Thursday, July 21.GCMChefBBQ2015

Maybe you know about The Green City Market, the twice-a-week farmers market in Lincoln Park (and other locations), named one of the top farmer’s markets in the country, where serious cooks, foodies and chefs shop side by side with regular folks to get healthy, tasty, local, seasonable, sustainable food and produce.

The Chef BBQ is a way to help with the growing expenses of running the market while keeping its farm fees as low as possible making the Green City Market’s booth fees among the lowest in Chicago.

At $125 per person the BBQ may seem pricey, but think what you would pay for a dinner at just one of these establishments and the price may not sound so steep. Plus it’s all for a good cause and the price tag is all-inclusive.

All dishes served at the BBQ feature local, sustainable heirloom produce and heritage meats sourced from Green City Market farmers.

In addition, multiple Midwest brewers, distilleries, and wineries offer tastings of handcrafted beverages with a focus on locally sourced ingredients.

This year, the Green City Market (GCM) will host a live auction at the BBQ, featuring curated dinner parties by some of Chicago’s best celebrity chefs. The auction will take place at the event with the opportunity to bid directly from your cell phone. The proceeds from the Live Auction will go towards supporting Green City Markets free educational programming.

When: July 21, 2016, 5:30 to 8:00 pm. (VIP starts at 4:30 pm.)

Where: South End of Lincoln Park, approximately 1800 N. Clark

Tickets: Tickets are available online or at the gate.

  • VIP $250
 tickets offer early access to the event at 4:30pm along with special access to additional restaurant offerings, private bar areas, wait staff, premium restrooms, multiple lounge areas and communal seating.
  • General Admission $125
  • Kids Ticket (Under 12) $25
