Chicago Shakespeare Theater (CST) announced at a press conference on Wednesday that they will be adding an innovative new performance space dubbed “The Yard” to their venue.
The $35 million project designed by UK-based Charcoalblue and Chicago’s Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture will be built on Navy Pier in the space adjacent to the CST theater that has been occupied by the Skyline Stage.
Construction of The Yard is scheduled to begin this spring with plans to stage its first production in the 2017-18 season.
The Yard will be connected to the existing facility, which currently houses two theaters, through expanded lobbies. The year-round, flexible venue can be configured in a variety of shapes and sizes with audience capacities ranging from 150 to 850, defining the audience–artist relationship to best serve each production.
