Early Warning: 2016 dates announced for Chicago summer festivals

If these warm November days have you thinking summer, you are not alone. Chicago’s  Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events announced today the dates for the 2016 city sponsored festivals and events along with highlights for each—subject to change.

The 2016 city calendar kicks off May 7 with the Kids and Kites Festival and continues through September 26 with the18th Annual World Music Festival Chicago.

Show Me Chicago will publish our annual calendar of festivals (including neighborhood festivals) and events as early as possible in 2016.

18th Annual Chicago Kids and Kites Festival
May 7, 2016
A favorite family event and a harbinger of springtime in Chicago, the festival provides free kite kits for children to build, decorate and fly (while supplies last) along with other family activities such as face painting, balloon artists and the Big Kite Candy Drop (weather permitting).

June 3–4, 2016

June 10–12, 2016

20th Annual Chicago SummerDance
Fridays–Sundays, June 24–September 11, 2016
Swing, waltz, cha-cha…or simply enjoy the music at the largest annual outdoor live music and dancing series in the United States. Dancers of all ages and skill levels are invited to take part in introductory, one-hour dance lessons by professional instructors followed by live music and dancing.

August 20–21, 2016

38th Annual Chicago Jazz Festival
September 1–4, 2016

18th Annual World Music Festival Chicago
