Summer Theatre Showcase: Chicago League of Theatres Free Previews

The League of Chicago Theatres Summer Theatre Showcase series is offering free live preview performances highlighting popular productions from our city’s exciting theater scene.

The lunchtime performances will take place at noon on Friday, August 14 and Friday, August 28 inside the historic Water Works building at 163 E. Pearson Avenue on the Mag Mile.

The 45-minute performances presented by some of Chicago’s top theatre companies and actors are free with no tickets or reservations required.

This Friday (August 14) two preview performances will be showcased:

  • Loving Repeating by Kokandy Productions
  • AND Sideshow Theatre’s Stupid F**king Bird

Stupid Fucking Bird, Aaron Posner’s comic spin on Chekhov’s The Seagull is currently running at Victory Gardens Theatre.

Loving Repeating is a musical tribute to the life and loves of celebrated American author Gertrude Stein that is now playing at Theater Wit.

On Friday, August 28, the featured performances will include:

  • Members of The Hypocrites theatre company performing a selection from American Idiot
  • AND Barrel of Monkeys presenting a showcase of student-written stories

The Chicago premiere of the smash Broadway musical American Idiot is based on punk rock band Green Day’s Grammy Award-winning multi-platinum album of the same name. American Idiot will open in previews at the Den Theatre on August 28.

The summer showcase series, hosted by novelty folk duo Gretchen & Regina, will also include interviews with the artists and a performance from a musician from the Old Town School of Folk Music.
