Just in time for the weekend with the summer season gearing up, City Winery Riverwalk opens today (Friday, June 12) on the new Marina Plaza located on the south bank of the Chicago River between Dearborn and State Streets.

Things continue to move swimmingly, along the city’s new spiffed up Riverwalk, with newly opened restaurants Island Party Hut and Flanders Belgian Beer and Fries joining City Winey Riverwalk, mixing seamlessly with existing favorites including: Chicago Cut, O’Brien’s Riverwalk Cafe, Chicago Riverwalk Cafe, Cyrano’s Cafe On The River and River Roast.

City Winery Riverfront, open daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., offers the perfect perch to catch a breeze and view the action along Chicago’s riverfront.

The patio seats 107 with additional seating available at mobile bars constructed from wooden wine barrels. The space has a cafe-like vibe with the menu featuring a summery mix that includes salads, sandwiches, meat and cheese plates along with refreshing gelatos and sorbets.

Guests can order lunch, dinner or select from a variety of light and family friendly options along with a rotating selection of wines, Goose Island beers and cocktails.

Come by boat or by land. The Marina Plaza location offers one of the first touch-and-go areas along the river for private boaters and local boaters and visitors to tie up along the river’s edge.

The drink menu features six house-made wines– sourced from vineyards in California, Oregon, Washington, Argentina and Chile–on tap, in addition to bottles of bubbly.  City Winery Chicago has also designated a signature “Riverwalk Red” (blend) that will be available all summer long.

Guests will be able to sip their wine from glass glasses, not plastic as was first proposed by the city.  City Winery’s beverage director Rachel Driver Speckan explains saying, “We really feel that the wine experience is enhanced by the vessel by which you drink.”

The original City Winery Chicago which opened in 2012 in the historic urban Fulton Market district is a fully operational winery, restaurant with outdoor patio, concert hall and private event space located at 1200 W. Randolph in a former refrigerated food distribution warehouse. Other City Winery locations include New York, Nashville and Napa Valley.
