Pretty much everyone, everywhere is having Valentine specials. With Valentines day arriving on the heels of Chicago Restaurant Week (January 30 through February 12) you shouldn’t have to break the bank to show your love.

Show Me Chicago is rolling out our Valentine 2015 menu which includes some sweet ideas for restaurants, overnights, massages and more with prices ranging from budget-friendly to a $15,000 blow-out.  Here is a baker’s dozen of ideas and events beyond roses.

1. Ceres’ Table…Dinner and a chance to win a diamond infinity necklace

Ceres’ Table’s, newish location in Lakeview at 3124 N. Broadway has it all from ambient atmosphere to an  exceptional and relatively affordable menu.  The 4-time Bib Gourmand winner is cooking up a special four-course Valentine’s Day menu, with one guest receiving a diamond infinity necklace from Chicago-based Steve Quick Jewelers in a random drawing.  Additionally, all diners will receive complimentary signature chocolates from Veruca Chocolates, Food & Wine.

2. Chicago q

Barbecue fans can indulge in some pretty special specials at Chicago q (1160 N. Dearborn Street).  A special Valentine menu will be available February 13 through February 15.  Specials include: Appetizer Tasting for Two, ($18) featuring Two Dry-Rubbed Wings, Two House-Bacon Cheddar Hush Puppies, Two Shrimp and Grits, and Two Fried Green Tomatoes. In addition Dry-Rubbed Sea Scallops, Sweet Potato Puree, Braised Bacon Wild Rice is $38. For desserts, they are offering a Fudge Bundt Cake or a Sour Cherry Compote with a White Chocolate Glaze for $9. The regular menu is also be available. 312 642 1160.

3. Shaw’s Crab House

Shaw’s Crab House (21 E. Hubbard St.) offers a triple threat on Valentine’s Weekend. The 1940s-style seafood emporium with retro leather banquets, polished wood floors, and Art Deco touches is offering:

1. A special four-course menu with optional wine pairings–priced at $80 for the dinner or $120 per person with the wine pairings (excluding tax and gratuity).

2. OR guests can hang out at the Oyster Bar open on February 15th from 11:30 a.m. until 9 p.m. where you can select from the regular menu and/or enjoy 1/2 priced oysters from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

OR 3. ON SUNDAY Shaw’s will host their popular Sunday Brunch in the Main Dining Room from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Mimosas and bloodies will be flowing along with their popular brunch for $55 per person and FREE for kids 12 and under (limit 2 kids per adult). 312 527 2722.

4. River Roost

River Roast (315 N. LaSalle St.) where “roasts” are king and meant to be shared by two is featuring their whole roasted chicken, big fish, roast beef, rack of pork and boatload of veggies–all shareable entrees.

Diners can also choose from Valentine’s Day specials by Executive Chef John Hogan including: Oysters Rockefeller ($18); Dover Sole stuffed with Lobster Mousse and Lobster Sauternes Sauce ($52);and  Roasted Venison with Savory Oatmeal Cake and Parsnip Apple Puree ($40). 312 822 0100.

Plus River Roast’s Blues & Brews Brunch the weekend of Valentine’s Day (February 14th and 15th), will feature Nick and Kate Moss, a husband and wife duo, and two of Chicago’s great blues players. Chef Hogan, curator of the weekly live blues shows, invites music lovers in for a little romancing with this musical couple.

5. Geja’s Café

A popular choice for romantics for over 50 years, Geja’s Café, is hosting a special two week (2/1-2/15) Valentine’s Festival featuring a variety of prix fixe menus and wine pairings.

The enchanting wine cellar atmosphere, private booths, and subdued lighting create the perfect Valentine’s ambiance at this Chicago “institution” that has been the site of 135,356 first dates and 16,266 engagements and diners have enjoyed over 321 tons of cheese fondue and over 1,072,046 bottles of wine. 773 281 9101.

6. Eataly

Eataly, Chicago’s go-to food hall (43 E. Ohio St.) will be hosting a one-night pop-up food event on Valentine’s Day featuring a trio of  their Carne, Pesce and Verdure restaurants, called Osteria Valentino which will offer special Valentine dishes for two including  a risotto with white truffle butter and a 30-ounce bone-in ribeye with potato gratin and wilted greens. 7. Pinstripes

Pinstripes locations in Streeterville, Northbrook, South Barrington and Oak Brook are pulling out all stops for Valentine’s Day with heart-inspired food and drink including heart-shaped pizzas for dine-in and carryout plus complimentary Frangelico Chocolate Cake and champagne toasts.

8. Weber Grill

Weber Grill in River North, Schaumburg and Lombard will be serving ala carte menu specials featuring truffles, Chocolate Covered Strawberrieschocolate, strawberries and steak. Guests can also add to the ambiance with half a dozen roses pre-set at the table.

9. Sleep Over Packages at Trump Chicago

Trump Chicago (401 N. Wabash Avenue) is offering a variety of Valentine packages this February (all month) starting at $529 for a “Do Not Disturb retreat” for two that features a Deluxe King guestroom with a bottle of champagne and strawberries on arrival and continues with chocolate body paint; a continental in-room breakfast for two and a complimentary late check-out at 2 p.m.

OR those with deep pockets can splurge with Trump’s “The Sweetest Thing” package that begins with a limo ride to the hotel. Upon arrival guests will be escorted to a luxurious Grand Deluxe Lake View Suite complete with a bottle of chilled champagne.

The package also includes: jewelry from Ivanka Trump’s jewelry line; two dozen red roses; a private in-suite dinner for two prepared by a personal chef; a full day of couples treatments at The Spa at Trump; personalized Trump robes; and a romantic turn-down service with Voges K Vintners Viognier wine and milk chocolate truffle collection.

10. A Twist on V Day at ACME Hotel

ACME Hotel (15 E. Ohio Street) has put together a Twisted Romance package for Valentine’s Day–because, as they say, “every love life needs a little twist, right?”

ACME’s Twisted Romance package adds up to some frisky fun to celebrate the holiday of love.  The package includes an overnight stay in a Standard King room, a bottle of tequila, massage oil, mood-enhancing tunes, pretty panties, the game of Twister and late check out at 3 p.m. Rates for the Twisted Love package start at $199 for a Standard King. 11. A Couple’s Massage at Cowshed

Cowshed Spa at Soho House Chicago (113-125 N. Green Street) is offering a special Valentine’s day rub at their Soho House Chicago’s Cowshed spa.

The cozy, rustic and luxurious garden level space features reclaimed midwestern barn wood, crystal chandeliers, custom leather wingback chairs and individual, retro television screens.

The signature Cowshed moody massage allows guests to choose one of eight signature Cowshed moods or fragrances, from knackered to lazy and wild along with their “horny” products. Cowshed couple’s massage is $210 for 60 minutes and $250 for 90 minutes.  312 754 6915.

12. Royal George Theatre

Whether it’s your first date or your golden anniversary Royal George Theatres’ (1641 N. Halsted Ave.) new musical comedy First Date about the most dangerous human endeavor in existence – the dreaded blind date should put a smile on your face.

Special Valentine’s Day performances take place at 5:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. The rapid-fire 90 minutes, First Date performance leaves plenty of time for pre or post theatre dining at many of the area’s fine-dining restaurants including:  Vinci, Balena, Boka, Chez Moi, Cafe Ba-Ba-Reeba and Summer House.

13. Dinner and West Side Story at Drury Lane Theatre

Treat that someone special to a three-course Valentine’s Day Dinner and West Side Story at Drury Lane Theatre in Oakbrook Terrace.

The Valentine’s Day menu at Drury Lane includes Wild Mushroom and Maderia Bisque or Spinach and Baby Greens Salad; Filet Mignon, Sea Scallops or Duck Duo entree; along with a Molten Caramel Chocolate Cake and Strawberry Tart for dessert. Valentine’s Day performances are at 5 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.   For reservations, call 630 530 8300.
