The Magnificent Mile Lights Festival on Saturday, November 22, will feature a day full of events and activities culminating in a magical lighting parade down the Mag Mile that will illuminate one million plus twinkling lights on 200 trees along North Michigan Avenue.
Over one million people are expected for Chicago’s big holiday bash, now in its 23rd year. The festival offers a full day of holiday activities and events throughout The Magnificent Mile district.
Lights Festival Lane, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Pioneer Court, 401 N. Michigan Avenue. The Plaza will be in full holiday mode with interactive activities, delicious treats and entertainment. Featured musical performers on the BMO Harris Bank Stage will include: Justin Roberts and the Not Ready for Naptime Players, Jacquie Lee, Kendall Schmidt and Nico and Vinz (Norwegian singer-songwriter duo from Oslo). In addition, three BMO Harris Helper Tents will be distributing free hand warmers.
Santa will be on Pioneer Court Plaza taking requests and posing for pictures.
Meet & Greet: Reindeer on the River
Just west of Pioneer Court across Michigan Avenue and along the Chicago River, Trump Tower is hosting a complimentary “Meet and Greet the Reindeer on the River” featuring two live reindeer and Santa. In addition, there will be entertainment showcasing several VIP guests. 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Riverwalk at Trump Chicago. Adjacent to the Magnificent Mile, the Riverwalk is accessible via both the Wrigley Building breezeway and Wabash Avenue and allows for pedestrian traffic directly along the Chicago River.
The parade steps off at 5:30 p.m. with grand marshals Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse leading more than 40 floats and helium-filled balloons along with seven marching bands plus celebrities including Sabrina Carpenter, from Disney Channel series Girl Meets World; Twisted Sister’s Dee Snider, Brendan James from “America’s Got Talent”; and Anna & Elsa from Disney on Ice Frozen.
Santa will soar above the crowds on the Illinois Office of Tourism float. Other parade highlights include: the larger-than-life Hubert the Lion balloon from BMO Harris Bank and the mouth-watering scent of Garrett Popcorn infused down the procession route, a float made of life-size candy from Candyality and a Blackhawks trolley.
The parade steps off at Oak St. and North Michigan Avenue, and proceeds south down the Mag Mile to Wacker Drive.
Following the parade, a spectacular fireworks display will take place over the Chicago River providing the grand finale to the day with more than 10,000 handmade fireworks shells.
