Flaunt your flair for the dramatic at the Lyric Opera of Chicago’s one-day-only costume sale this Saturday, September 6.

Think outside of the box beyond Frozen, superheroes, princesses, witches, monsters or zombies. How about something from Don Giovanni, The Mikado, The Voyage of Edgar Allan Poe, The Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny, A Masked Ball, The Pirates of Penzance, the Ring cycle, The Flying Dutchman, I Capuleti e I Montecchi, or Die Fledermaus.

It’s been ten years since the Lyric Opera has had a costume sale so the time has come, once again, for the Lyric to clean house.

The one-of-a-kind sale will feature more than 3,000 costumes along with a wide selection of hats–some dating back to the 1960s–with price tags from $1 to $200. The costumes will be in adult sizes only.

The Lyric says that everything will be sold as is, and prices are final—no bartering–no refunds or exchanges.

Warning:  There are no fitting rooms so you are on your own for creative ways to try on the costumes. The Lyric suggests, “that shoppers should dress appropriately to try on costumes over their clothing.”

Admission to Saturday’s sale is free, but there is a suggested donation of $5. Hours are between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m.  The sale will take place in Rice Grand Foyer of the Civic Opera House, 20 N. Wacker Dr. (at the corner of Wacker and Madison).  Cash and major credit cards will be accepted.

Stick around after the sale and catch the Stars of Lyric Opera at Millennium Park free concert, starting at 7:30pm. or go home and listen to it broadcast live on 98.7WFMT.
