Popcorn & Pasquale Chicago: A Lyric Opera First for Kids and their Grownups.

CHICAGO, Wednesday, July 18, 2012, Although, it doesn’t happen until December 2nd, tickets go on sale today for Lyric Opera subscribers and August 1 for the general public for Popcorn & Pasquale--a 70-minute opera adventure, created especially for kids ages 5 through 12 and their families.

The one-of-a-kind programing will feature the stars of Lyric’s Don Pasquale production – Ildebrando D’Arcangelo, Marlis Petersen, René Barbera, and Corey Crider. The event will be hosted by renown actor Ross Lehman.

Popcorn & Pasquale will consist of selected scenes from Donizetti’s sparkling comedy with Lehman guiding the audience along the way. He’ll ask some of the opera’s characters what they really think about each other by questioning a nobleman of a certain age; his young nephew; and the pretty girl they both want to marry.

Kids and their families will learn a tune from the opera and participate in a singalong. They will see a set change and learn how it is done. In addition, children will receive a special printed program full of take-home activities. The event promises to be a perfect introduction to opera for kids and to bring a younger demographic to the graying Lyric audience.

Tickets for Popcorn & Pasquale are $10, $15, and $20 for children 12 and under, and $20, $30, and $40 for everyone else. 2p.m., Sunday, December 2, 2012. Civic Opera House.
