Chicago, Monday, July 23, 2012. Get up close and personal with some of the literary icons of the 20th century at the new exhibition, Author, Author, opening this Saturday at the Harold Washington Library Center. More than 50 intimate portraits of the likes of Tennessee Williams, Gore Vidal, Edward Albee, Michael Crichton, Jackie Collins, Amy Tan, Oliver Stone, Sidney Sheldon, Mickey Spillane, Billy Wilder and Ray Bradbury by world-renowned photographer Michael Childers will grace the walls of the Congress Corridor of the Library.
If you loved their books and their plays, you will want to view this exceptional collection of Childers’ portraiture from the 1960’s through 2012 that goes beyond words to capture the personalities of these literary giants of the 20th century.
The award-winning Childers is known for his fine art photographs of legendary movie stars, artists and other luminaries that first graced the cover of Andy Warhol’s Interview Magazine and After Dark Magazine. His awards include: Lifetime Achievement awards in Hollywood photography from the Provincetown Film Festival, Temecula Film Festival, Carmel Film Festival, and the Los Angeles Film Festival.
In addition to his author’s series, Childers has shot covers for magazines including: GQ, Esquire, Elle, and Vogue. His work also includes photographs and portraits of many stars such as Catherine Deneuve, Clint Eastwood, Richard Gere, Dustin Hoffman, Ben Kingsley, Lawrence Olivier, Demi Moore, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Mae West, Natalie Wood, Billy Wilder and others.
Author, Author, is a free exhibit that will be on display July 28, 2012 through February 3, 2013, in the Congress Corridor of the Chicago Public Library’s Harold Washington Library Center, 400 South State Street.
