The inaugural Lake Bluff Twilight Criterium and Block Party kicks off Friday, June 1, 2012.

Chicago, Friday, June 1, 2012. Although the countdown to Chicago’s festival season has already produced some May festivals, the big street fest, art fair and outdoor concert season kicks off today–the official start to Summertime in Chicago.  Get ready to do it now…before the season goes away…all too fast.


Do Division Street Fest.

It’s that time again to “Do Division” with live music, arts, crafts, food, beverages, family fun, punk-rock hair styling, pony rides and more along 10-city blocks down Division Street in the Wicker Park/West Town ‘hoods. Friday (5-10p.m.), Saturday and Sunday (noon-10p.m.).   1550-2200 W. Division St. $5, suggested donation.


The second annual SausageFest Chicago comes to the Wrigleyville neighborhood with encased meats from top local sausage/meat shops along with live music and more.  Entertainment kicks off at noon. The 3600 block of  North Sheffield (between Addison and Waveland).  Saturday and Sunday, June 2 and 3. $5 donation. 3600 North Sheffield. Noon to 10p.m.


May queen crowning, German Gemutlichkeit, dancing, eating, drinking and more highlight this 3-day party in the Lincoln Square neighborhood.  Lincoln and Leland Ave. 4700 N. Lincoln. Friday, 5p.m. to 11p.m., Saturday, noon to 11p.m. and Sunday, noon to 10p.m.

Professional Bike Races and Block Party.

The inaugural Lake Bluff Twilight Criterium features the 6th stage of the USA Crits Championship Series on Friday, June 1.  The event brings in top male and female riders from across the country as they compete for nearly $20,000 in prize money.  The race will begin at 2:30 pm with high-level amateur racing followed by professional men’s and women’s cycling teams. The event also features a children’s bike race (must be registered), family activities, live music, food, beverages and more.  The annual Lake Bluff “Block Party”, in conjunction with the Criterium, will be held on the Village Green starting late in the afternoon and continuing well into the evening. Downtown, Lake Bluff along Scranton and Center.   Some streets will be closed so the Metra North Line may be the way to go. It stops just across the street from the Village Green (Lake Bluff stop–about an hour ride from downtown Chicago).

Art Fairs.

East Side Millennium Art Festival.
Celebrate “Art in the City” at the Chicago Eastside Millennium Art Festival.  The festival features original works of  art in a variety of mediums, art demonstrations, interactive booth chats with exhibiting artists, live music and food. Jun 1 – Jun 3,  Fri 11a.m.-5p.m., Sat. and Sun. 10a.m.-5p.m.

57th Street Art Fair.

This oldie but goodie 
is one of Chicago’s oldest and most respected art fairs.  The 57th Street Art Fair, features glass, jewelry, leather, photography, printmaking, painting, sculpture, wood, ceramics and fiber.  The event is alcohol free.  57th Street and Kenwood Avenue. 11a.m. to 6p.m. June 2-3, Hyde Park. between Dorchester Ave. and Kimbark Ave.


Stop by Navy Pier for some FIREWORKS at 10:15p.m.  Fireworks will continue most Wednesdays and Saturdays through Labor Day.


The Pancreatic Cancer Research 5K–Dash for Detection 
steps off Saturday, June 2.  
Dash or walk along Chicago’s Downtown’s lakefront at this 5K competitive-timed run and 5K walk.  10:00 a.m. at 600 E. Randolph, near the entrance of the Columbia Yacht Club.
