It’s another banner year for the Windy City. For those looking for a unique gift for themselves or others, Chicago will be auctioning off banners that were once displayed on city streets. On Wednesday, November 16 at noon, auctioneer Gary Metzner, Senior Vice President of Sotheby’s Midwest, will raise the gavel at Daley Center’s East Lobby on this popular annual event.
Sports fans can choose banners from the Blackhawk’s Stanley Cup; the White Sox World Series and the Bear Super Bowl XLT. Movie fans of all ages can get their very own large banners that promoted 3-D movies screened at Navy Pier’s IMAX Theatre including the likes of “Harry Potter”, “Tron”, “Avatar” and “Pirates of the Caribbean”. Other items include banners from: the 25th Annual Chicago Blues Festival; vintage Chicago International Film Festival; the Gustave Caillebotte at the Art Institute; a vintage Chicago Marathon Banner and many others.
New this year is the “going…going…gone” table where “must go” sale banners will be priced at only $5 giving shoppers with small budgets an opportunity to find some unique gifts.
The Banner Auction accepts all major credit cards, checks or cash. All sales are final. Proceeds from these sales benefit the “Sharing It” Program which helps feed and job train the underprivileged. Donations are made to the Chicago Anti-Hunger Federation and the Greater Chicago Food Depository.
