Chicago Cubs Pitcher Carlos Zambrano to Go On Disqualified List.

Chicago, Saturday, August 13, 2011. Just announced in Atlanta.  The Chicago Cubs have put right-handed pitcher Carlos Zambrano on the disqualified list, effective immediately. Whether we will ever see Zambrano in a Cubs uniform again is doubtful.

For the next 30 days he will go without pay or any activity with the ball club.  During this time, Major League Baseball and the Major League Baseball Players Association will discuss recent statements attributed to Zambrano regarding his baseball future.

Zambrano was ejected from last night’s start in Atlanta after allowing eight runs on eight hits in 4.1 innings, matching the franchise record for five home runs allowed in an appearance.  He emptied his locker and left the ball park before the game was over.  The game ended with a score of Atlanta 10 Chicago 4.

I, for one, will be sorry if Zambrano leaves the team.  He is a talented pitcher and hitter when he is on his game.  The real question is will the Cubs be better with or without the Big Z?

Zambrano is 9-7 for the season with a 4.82 ERA (78 ER/145.2 IP) in 24 starts for the Cubs this season.
