Show Me Chicago Offers a Summer Concert Sampler.
With last summer’s concert season only doing fair to middling. This summer, live-music promoters are pulling out all the stops. Some are cutting ticket prices, offering special discounts, trying new venues–Dave Matthews in a former steel plant on the South Side of Chicago–pairing unlikely acts and more. Here’s a look at some of the acts coming to the Windy City this summer.
1. Dave Matthews Band.
July 8 through July 10, 2011.
Dave Matthews and his band will be performing a three-day festival in the Windy City at a former steel plant. The series of three-day festivals will feature a diverse array of musical talent performing on three stages during the day. As headliners, Dave Matthews Band will perform a full set each night. 2. Def Leppard & Heart.
July 15, 2011.
Def Leppard hits the road with special guest Heart. Def Leppard known for their spectacular concerts and legendary riffs and sound will appear at First Midwest Bank Amphitheater in Tinley Park. Tickets, $37 to $700.
June 7, 2011 and June 8, 2011.
Dispatch, the funk-reggae fusion band, hits the road for their first full tour in ten years. They’ll spend two nights in the Windy City stopping the UIC Pavilion on June 7 and Jay Pritzker Pavilion on June 8. Jay Pritzker Pavilion, Tickets, 43 to 510.
4. Taylor Swift.
August 9 and 10, 2011.
Swift is “Fearless” as she embarks on another full-out tour less than a year after wrapping up her 107 stop world tour. She spend two nights in Chicago at Allstate Arena. Tickets, prices set by tour, $25- $79.50. photo credit: yallwire.com
5. Josh Groban.
July 13, 2011.
Chicago audiences will get a look at the new and improved Josh Groban with tweaking and tweeting (setting the tweets of Kanye West to music) when his Starlight to You tour stops by the United Center. Tickets, 108 to 687.
6. Eddie Vedder.
June 28, 29, 2011.

7. Sade & John Legend

Sade fans will have three chances to see the sultry R & B singer. She will be appearing with John Legend–both performing a full-length set at the United Center. Tickets, 64 to 1164.
