Chicago Summer Festivals 2011: Dates Announced for Blues Fest, Air and Water Show, Jazz Fest and More.

Chicago, Monday, March 7, 2011. The Chicago Festival Season 2011 kicks off on May 7th with the 13th Annual Kids and Kites Festival at Lincoln Park. Highlights include free kits for children to design and create their own kite,  Kohl’s Story Bus, Giant Kite Flyer, Face Painting, Roaming Variety Entertainment, Arts and Crafts, food and much more

The Chicago Memorial Day Parade, one of the largest parades in the nation, will step off at  noon on May 28 along State St. from Lake St. to Van Buren.

The Big Three are Free.
The City of Chicago has just announced that three of the summer’s marquee events will be free admission festivals as they have been in the past. The times and dates are as follows:
 
The 28th Annual Chicago Blues Festival will take place June 10 through the 12 in Grant

Park.  This year’s theme is Sweet Home Chicago: A Centennial Celebration of Robert Johnson. The show will feature three days of entertainment on five stages with more than 500,000 blues fans expected. 

The 53rd Chicago Air and Water Show, the largest free show of its kind in the United States, will rock the lakefront August 20 and 21. The U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds and the U.S. Army Parachute Team Golden Knights will headline the show along the lakefront from Fullerton to Oak Street, with North Avenue Beach as the focal point. 11a.m. to 4p.m both days.  

The 33rd Annual Chicago Jazz Festival will be held September 1 through 4 in three separate locations: The Chicago Cultural Center, Thursday, September 1; an evening at Millennium Park’s Jay Pritzker Pavilion on Friday, September 2; and on four stages in Grant Park, 11a.m. to 9:30p.m. on September 3 and 4.  Complete line-ups will be announced in mid-May.
