CHICAGO, January 5, 2011.  Broadway in Chicago has just announced that individual tickets for the Tony Award-winning production of HAIR: The American Tribal Love-Rock Musical will go on sale on Friday, January 7 at 10a.m. through all Broadway In Chicago ticketing outlets.  The National Tour of HAIR comes to Chicago’s Ford Center for the Performing Arts Oriental Theatre for a limited, two-week engagement March 8 through 20, 2011.

HAIR, the musical that broke all the rules in the 1960’s, is alive and well and heading to the Windy City with most of the 2009 Broadway cast on board. The 2009 revival has received rave reviews in both New York and London.

The new HAIR won the 2009 Tony Award for Best Musical Revival as well as the
Drama Desk, Drama League, and Outer Critics Circle award for Outstanding
Revival of a Musical. HAIR was also nominated for an additional seven
Tony Awards including Best Direction, Best Choreography, Best Costume
Design, Best Lighting Design and Best Sound Design. In addition, the cast recording
was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Musical Show Album.

The original HAIR opened on Broadway in April of 1968. The show, then and now, depicts the birth of a cultural movement in the 60’s and 70’s that changed America forever. Audiences in the 60’s were shocked by the 20-second dimly-lit nude scene that even some of the actors were hesitant to participate in.  Nothing was scared in the ground-breaking show–illegal drugs, nudity, profanity, pacifism, religion, environmentalism, astrology along with irreverence for the American flag were all incorporated in the story and music. Several of its songs became anthems of the anti-Vietnam War peace movement.

Today’s audiences can enjoy the catchy score with songs including  “Let the Sun Shine In,”
Aquarius,” “Hair” and “Good Morning Starshine,” and re-visit the hippie
counter-culture and sexual revolution of the 1960s through the lens of the past and see how far we have come in the last 40 years.
