THE EMPEROR’S NEW CLOTHES OPENS at the Chicago Shakespeare Theater.

For theater-lovers it wouldn’t be summer without at least one evening of Shakespeare-Under-the Stars.  First Folio Theatre in Oak Brook is presenting one of the Bard’s most delightful comedies, Twelfth Night, in their annual Shakespeare Festival.  $18 to $30.  Mayslake Peabody Estate, 1717 W. 31st. St., Oak Brook. 630 986 8067.  www.firstfolio.org July 7 through August 8, 2010.

A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE at Writer’s Theatre has been EXTENDED again.

More than worth the trip to Glencoe.  This show is on my list of “10 Shows to See Before it’s Too Late,” and is definitely in my top three.  The production has received accolades from such prestigious publications as the Wall St. Journal and the New York Times.  Writer’s Theater has taken this powerful Pulitzer Prize winning play by Tennessee Williams to a new level in its intimate 100-seat space.  Many shows are sold out–so get moving if you want to catch this one.  Tickets, $50, $60. 325 Tudor Court, Glencoe, 847 242 6000. www.writerstheatre.org Extended through August 15, 2010.
