Chicago 4th of July Fireworks plus holiday weekend events from Fireworks Cruises, Theater on the Lake, Grant Park Music Festival and more in the Weekend Wrap.


Independence Day Fireworks 2010…a Triple Play.

This year, the City of Chicago is spreading out its fireworks spectacular. Instead of one big show at Grant Park, fireworks will be lighting up 26 miles of Chicago’s lake front with a triple play of pyrotechnics. The City has also changed the date of the celebration from July 3 to July 4.
The simultaneous shows will fire off in the following locations:
Mid-point: Navy Pier, 600 E. Grand Ave.
North side: Fireworks will be set off near Montrose Beach with best viewing from Foster to Montrose near the lakefront.
South side:  Fireworks will be set off near the 63rd St. Beach with best viewing between 63rd. St. and Promontory Point.
Sunday, July 4th
All displays will begin at 9:00p.m. and last approximately 15 minutes.

Theater on the Lake.
The 58th annual Theater on the Lake season continues this weekend with the Red Orchid Theatre Ensemble’s production of Abigail’s Party. Enjoy this immensely popular show performed on the open-air stage that has been host to some of the best Chicago has to offer. 7:30p.m. Friday and Saturday and 6:30p.m. Sunday. $17.50, Fullerton and Lake Michigan in Lincoln Park.  Box office: 312 742 7994.


Enjoy a Weekend of Music in Millennium Park.
Celebrate Independence Day weekend at the Grant Park Music Festival in the park at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion. The Grant Park Orchestra will pay tribute to our country’s birthday with a special performance that features the Chicago Human Rhythm Project’s BAM! and the Trinity Irish Dancers.  Free. 1:30p.m. July 3.

Green Velvet aka Cajmere will bring his techo style of music to the stage at Millennium Park at the Edible Audible Picnic at noon on Saturday. July 3.

Portland indie rock group The Thermals and Minimalist rock group, Disappears will perform in the park Monday evening.  6:30p.m. July 5.

Chicago Cubs.
The Chicago Cubs are in town this weekend for three day-games against the division leading


Cincinnati Reds.   Limited $10 bleacher seats may still be available for weekend games (use code SANTO). Friday, 1:20p.m. Sat. 12:05p.m. Sun. 1:20p.m.

Taste of Chicago.
The Taste continues in Grant and Millennium parks through the 4th. Note Taste closes at 7p.m. Saturday and 6p.m. Sunday.

African-Caribbean International Festival of Life.
The African-Caribbean International Festival of Life kicks off Friday in Washington Park.  The fest offers live music on two stages, an international food court, nearly 200 arts and crafts vendors, a health pavilion and lots more. $10 before 5:00p.m., $15 after 5:00p.m. four-day pass $30. 5500 S. Cruising Chicago plus Special Fireworks Cruises.


Mystic Blue Cruises is offering a special fireworks cruise on July 4.  The cruise includes a global dinner buffet with Tequila-Lime Chopped Salad and Aloha Roasted Brisket, a open ba, views of the fireworks and interactive DJs dancing. Board 7:00p.m. Dock 10:30p.m. $139.90. 877 299 7783.
