Chicago Blackhawks Eating Crow...So Far

3 games into the 2021 season, the Chicago Blackhawks have scored a grand total of 5 goals while their opponents in the three games have scored 5 goals in EACH game.  So far it seems like the Hawks are eating crow – which is a testament to letting  go a future hall-of-famer and seeing the results of said move. I hope the decision makers are feeling some of this pain and are willing to admit they should be eating crow. After all, eating crow is a colloquial idiom explained by the following definition: “be humiliated by having to admit one’s defeats or mistakes, i.e. “the so-called experts will be eating crow tonight.”

Oh yes I know it’s early in the season and I know the Hawks are missing some key personnel including Captain Jonathan Toews, Brent Seabrook, Kirby Dach and several others. However with this being another Covid infected season, the schedule has been reduced to 56 regular season games so starting the season 0-3 is putting the Hawks at an early disadvantage. Two goaltenders in 3 games giving away 15 goals – Subban and Delia – study some film of Corey Crawford and see how it’s done!

To be fair to the goaltenders, the Hawks have also committed an inordinate number of penalties and in tonight’s game there were friendly fire goals and poor defensive play, a goal by Kane challenged and overturned and on and on….blah blah blah. In this age of a pandemic, civil unrest, rioting, looting and seditious acts against our own government, I know many of us look to our sports teams for some joy and diversion, an outlet from the grim news that seems to flow every day. So far, the diversion of watching the Blackhawks has just added to the depressive stuff going on and, at least for me, has me wondering if there’s a chance – slim as it might be – that the Blackhawk’s brains would consider trying to convince Crow into coming out of his early retirement from the NHL and give us some joy – for gosh sake – let us once again EAT up watching Crow back where he belongs. The stats are once again presented for your consideration – 15 GOALS in the first 3 games….I rest my case!
