Tonight’s final: Chicago Sky 80, Atlanta Dream 69 – absolutely the result of double-digit scoring by five Sky players including DePaul’s favorite daughter Allie Quigley who led all scorers tonight with 17. The Sky outscored Atlanta in three of the four quarters and the double digit scoring led to a doubly delicious win. Playoff hopes and dreams are still alive and kicking after tonight’s victory with another crucial game coming up on Wednesday against the Washington Mystics team which is one game ahead of Chicago in the standings. There is nothing mystical about what the Sky need to do on Hump Day – they need to get over the Hump and beat Washington.
No Angel McCoughtry for the Atlanta Dream as she was out of the game with a foot injury – tough luck that the Dream were without their leading scorer but them’s the breaks as they say. We have our superstar Elena Delle Donne back but she’s coming off the bench and only played 21 minutes in tonight’s game but still scored 15 points and had 3 blocked shots. For each game back, Delle Donne’s game time minutes have increased from around 15, to 16 and so on. Half a game with Delle Donne is still better than a full game without her as is proven with her impact on the court when she is in the game. Fourth game back for Delle Donne since being out with a bad flare-up of Lyme Disease and the Sky have a record of 3-1 since her return….everyone cross your fingers, cross your eyes, cross your legs and keep positive thoughts that Elena stays healthy because she is a vital cog in the Sky machine and when she’s on the floor, more often than not, the Sky win.
Cool game tonight and a class operation is the Chicago Sky organization as they held their Hoops for Troops game tonight so a lot of armed services personnel were in attendance and several were honored during the game. Classy and may I add my own thanks to all who serve and sacrifice so much to keep us safe and free to do fun things like go to Sky games and root on our team. Oorah! Also, there was a 14 year old girl (sorry I can’t remember her name) who sang the national anthem before the start of the game and she was spectacular – very moving on Hoops for Troops night to hear such a beautiful and powerful rendition of The Star Spangled Banner.
Another cool moment when Sky rookie Jamierra Faulkner was presented with her college diploma from Southern Mississippi representatives – after missing her graduation ceremony at the university arrangements were made to celebrate her graduating during half-time of tonight’s game. Nice moment for Jamierra, her teammates and nice that the fans got to see the presentation at center court. Congratulations Jamierra!
Cool personal moments, going to the game with good friend Jodi and her daughter Jamie and having a great time rooting on the Sky – eating ice cream, banging thunder sticks and being grateful to live in this great nation, protected by our wonderful troops, and watching some wonderful hoops. GO SKY!
