We don’t live in a perfect world...

In a perfect world, respect is a given.

The downfall? We don’t live in a perfect world.

Instead, we live in a world where many people don’t even know what the word respect means. Or if they do, they just choose to ignorantly not have any.

Disrespect comes in many forms. People are disrespectful to their loved ones and they take them for granted. Many are disrespectful when others have opposite or different views than they do. And some people unfortunately even lack respect for themselves.

DON’T LET THIS BE YOU! (Cause I am sure as hell am not going to let it be me!)

I am not about to go on some rant about today and the election (you all have social media to do that for you LOL) – but instead, I am just going to remind you to respect yourself and others in general. And yes, it really is that easy!

Personally, I will admit that at times I have failed myself in this exact thing. I am by no means perfect. It happens! Life is tough, complicated, and at times presents you with situations that challenge you. But it is how you handle those challenges that define you and that makes all of the difference. And while I too have struggled with challenges, situations, and negative people in my life, I am not going to let any of those things take away from the respect I give others and myself. You shouldn’t either!

And so what is it that I am exactly saying to do? It is SO simple.

Know your worth. Respect the people in your life and demand that you be respected in return.

Don’t let someone treat you poorly, make you feel less than or unimportant – EVER.

Stay away from people who negatively affect the way that you view yourself.

Don’t ever let somebody silence you, your opinions and your thoughts.

Make sure to establish respect from the beginning.

Get rid of the toxic people who don’t know what respect is.

Notice the signs – don’t let the disrespect get to the point of no return.

And last, most certainly not least… BE A GOOD HUMAN.

This isn’t a plea for you to change your life, get rid of people, or anything like that. This is a friendly reminder of how important respect is (because we can all forget, even me) and how vital it is to so many elements in our lives.

I am not asking for a perfect world. I know it’s impossible. But you can do your part in respecting yourself. Let this be the refresher for you to prioritize that. Mine was my friend simply reminding me that I deserve respect. No matter what your reminder is, either way… always know respect is a NECESSITY.
