Alright race fans, we’re a week away from the big action. Amatuer sailboat racing all around Lake Michigan agreed to shut down, so all could see the big pro’s come in and race foiling catamarans, leading to the America’s Cup Finals in Bermuda in 2017.
They’re racing identically built foiling AC45’s that are 45′ feet long, with a wing mast 70.5′ tall.
I’m praying for wind, big wind at the top end of control for these AC45 winged powerhouses. The Windy City needs to deliver.
There are tickets available – Buy them here. Chicago needs a sell out. Get your tickets now.
Where are we in the America’s Cup World Series (High Point Scoring)? After races in Portsmouth England, Gothenburg Sweden, Bermuda, Oman, New York NY, the scores are:
Emerites Team New Zealand, Skipper Peter Burling 244
Oracle Team USA, Skipper Jimmy Spithill 236
Land Rover BAR Britain, Skipper Sir Ben Ainslie 227
Softbank Team Japan, Skipper Dean Barker 203
Artemis Racing Sweden, Skipper Nathan Outteridge 201
Groupama Team France, Skipper Frank Cammas 194
THEY’RE STARTING TO PUT THE BOATS TOGETHER ON SUNDAY JUNE 5, BY LAKE MICHIGAN SAILOR MATT CASSIDY TEAM MEMBER ORACLE USA.
Friday June 10 is Practice Day.
Saturday June 11 racing provides 10 points for 1st, 9 points for 2nd, etc. Two races planned.
Sunday June 12 racing provices double points, 20 points for 1st, 18 points for 2nd, etc. Two races planned.
That’s 60 points available with a string of four 1st place finishes. Watch out for a game changer.
They go back to Portsmouth England in July, Toulon France in September, Fukuoka Japan in November and there may be more events added. Can you imagine the logistics of shipping this show (with 60 shipping containers) and staff around the world?
Many of you aren’t sailors and suddenly realized that you want to learn to sail, or go to a sailing school, or picked up as crew on a sailboat. Take a look in the right hand column and you’ll find all sorts of places to begin sailing all around the shores of Lake Michigan affordably without barriers.
