The Christmas Schooner is a theater musical about the first Christmas Ship coming from the North end of Lake Michigan to Chicago. Christmas Trees were a European tradition and was not widely adopted in Chicago, even though Chicago had a lot of European people in the day. All trees around Chicago had been cut down for building materials, they just couldn’t be had.
A Schooner Captain decides to bring the joy of Christmas Trees to Chicago, while it brings happiness to Chicagoans to relive their European past, sailing on Lake Michigan in November and December does not come without its dangers. It has romance, family bonds, challenges, crew issues, schooner sinking and more.
I saw this before and can’t wait to see it again. We discussed making it a Christmas tradition for our family to go see it each year. Don’t tell my wife or kids, but there were many times I had tears in my eyes, which is way out of character for me. It is a moving tale.
The Christmas Schooner runs at the:
3745 North Southport Avenue
Chicago, IL 60613

Buying tickets as holiday gifts would make a stupendous treat for anyone who has a maritime connection, or who just like a great story.
