The North Shore Yacht Club posted the following on their Facebook page since yesterday:
After hundreds of supporters packed both the City of Highland Park City Council meeting last night, and again tonight at the Park District of Highland Park Board of Commissioners meeting, a THREE WAY VICTORIOUS agreement was reached. Both agreed to extend PUBLIC ACCESS to the Park Ave Boating Launch & South Beach through the 2015 boating season. A Task Force will ask the tough questions and research long-term solutions for final recommendations! Thank you again for your voice and your support. Thank you to our Elected and Appointed officials for listening!
Read the story details from the Chicago Tribune and Suntimes below. The fact is, you all spoke up and you were heard! This is a victory for the City of Highland Park, Illinois, the Park District of Highland Park, NSYC, fisherman, boaters, residents, patrons, lake lovers, kayakers, dog walkers and more!
It appears that this provides one year to work out an arrangement to provide the recommended security around the water filtration plant, and allow the boating community to carry on. My impression of the City Council was of genuine interest to see that their community continue to have the ability to recreate. We’ll keep our fingers crossed that this all works for the best in the coming year.
Congratulations to all involved.
