Adult Sailing Schools, Version 2.0

Adult Sailing Schools, Version 2.0

No doubt, not many just jump in a car for the first time and start driving, almost everyone goes to a driving school. Sailing is no different, there are many adult sailing schools just looking to teach sailing.  These schools teach adults (and their children) how to skipper, or crew your own (future) boat or for others on their boat.  Maybe you need to get certified so you can charter a boat in the Caribbean, the Mediterranean or other far places.  Maybe you want to “get away” but not travel all that far, and have something to do once you get there.  Do a mini-vacation to one of the States surrounding Lake Michigan and take sailing school while there.

It is convenient, as they are generously spread around Lake Michigan’s shore and many inland lakes in the region.  While all will teach you to sail, some will just teach, others will include a timeshare, membership, or other strategy to keep you into sailing once you’ve learned the ropes.  The purpose of this blog is to break the myth that sailing is exclusive and expensive.  Again, I have succeeded to introduce sailing in the low hundreds or low thousands of dollars.  The door is wide open, check them out and join in the fun –

If you really want to make sailing your permanent job, you’ll probably spend little time on sail-vessels and most of your time on power-vessels by joining the U.S. Navy and going through Boot Camp at Naval Station Great Lakes. It is the largest military installation in Illinois, the largest training station in the Navy with approximately 38,000 men and women become enlisted in the Navy’s only boot camp.
