Team update: 17 days to go!

Greetings to my fellow Run with Heart team members! I hope this finds everyone well!  It’s taper time, woohoo!  If you haven’t done so yet, check out Tom’s training update. He has some great tips for this week.

Did anyone try my tip from last week? Emailing people after your 20 mile run? Did you have any success?

If you’ve sent emails and haven’t gotten a reply, set reminders on your calendar and follow up with people. Often times folks forget, or lose track of your email. Touch base with them! And please contact me if you need help or have questions!

Race weekend

On Friday, October 7th we’re going to have a Team meet and greet from 5-7pm at the American Heart Association office on La Salle. For those who need it here is the address:

American Heart Association, Midwest Affiliate
208 S LaSalle St, Suite 1500
Chicago, Illinois 60604

This will give everyone a chance to meet your fellow runners and mingle for a bit. We’ll have refreshments, some snacks and plenty of chairs! Please email me and let me know if you’ll be attending!

Our planning committee is going to put together a list of suggestions for restaurants as well as other fun things to do. For those of you traveling to Chicago, you may find this handy! Our goal is to have a list for you at our meet and greet!

The committee is also talking about coordinating times with our out of town runners, to accompany them to the Marathon Expo. If that’s something you’d be interested in, email me and we’ll get it set up!

Race Day
Our team has access to the CARA (Chicagoland Area Runners Association) Compound at the Congress Hotel on Michigan Avenue. Pre and post race, we’ll be able to meet there. Some of the benefits include: private restrooms, private gear check, an easy meeting spot for you and your friends and family. And this year we will have space for our team, so we can meet before the race. As a runner last year, I enjoyed having access to the CARA Compound. It’s a great benefit. More information to come on this.

Just past mile 14, as you’ll see on the map, runners will pass through the Charity Block Party. Viamedia, one of our sponsors, will be out with volunteers, friends and family cheering for all runners. It’s a big boost there, just past the halfway point. When we know where our space will be we will send info. This is a spot open to your friends and family too, so as soon as we know, we’ll share the info! It’s close to public transit and there is parking near by!

Use of the CTA, the public transportation here, is handy on race day for spectators. My dad utilized it last year and we were able to see each other 6 times on the course. Next week I will share my dad’s post about his experience last year.

Special Project
I also sent an email last week asking for pictures of each of you for a special project I have in the works. If you have a picture of you running, of you and who you’re running for, please email them to me as soon as you can! Thank you to those of you who have already sent pictures in!

In 17 days, the 45 of us will be in the same place tackling the same goal. While we might not see each other on race day, but we will be connected on race day. Each of us will run with heart. We all run for the AHA for a reason; we’ll run for our loved ones, for those who support us as we have taken this challenge on and we’ll run for ourselves.

We’re in the home stretch. If you need anything, or have any concerns, please email me, Jayme or anyone on the committee, they’re on the email I just sent to you. I’ll make sure my cell number is there too…call with questions. 17 to go!
