Have You Read Chicago's Gun Trace Report?

Have You Read Chicago's Gun Trace Report?
I suppose an easier question is did you know that Chicago released a gun trace report?  If you have yet to see it, click on the picture below to read it…I’ll wait.   Now, I’ve been meaning to post on this topic since the report was released last week.  However today, I heard two things that... A short and complete thought on the events in Las Vegas

A short and complete thought on the events in Las Vegas
Good morning readers, You should know by now that I speak honestly. We’ve been here before. We’ve seen the biggest mass shooting in American history before. I for one am not sending thoughts, prayers, or well wishes, because it all hangs cheap in the face of preventable tragedy. We choose not to talk “politics” in the... Read more »

It's literally been over a week, and my ears and mind are still abuzz with the sights and sounds of Riot Fest!

It's literally been over a week, and my ears and mind are still abuzz with the sights and sounds of Riot Fest!
Wow! Let me say it again… Wow! Riot Fest 2017 lived up to any and all hype that was abound about it.  Was there hype about it?  I actually don’t know, but for a lineup that I heard more than one person voice as “weak”, I had an amazing time! Amazing!!! This was my 5th... Read more »

Cops Leaving Crates of Guns Lying Around You Say?

Cops Leaving Crates of Guns Lying Around You Say?
So, it takes a lot for me to look someone in the face and say “You’re full of shit.”  Outside of Wayne Lapierre and the NRA nuts (they’re not all nuts, but there’s a very vocal minority, emboldened by a dirtbag leadership, that just keeps the boat rocking), I’m generally a live and let live... The Aftermath of July 4th

The Aftermath of July 4th
To quote the Chicago gun violence statistics website, Hey Jackass!: Reminder, this is the first year since 2013 where we’ll have an extra day of stupid to run up the score and it ended up being a “hold my beer and watch this” sort of extended weekend. Final Shoot-o-Rahm-a Tally: 15 killed, 88 wounded 2016 weekend... Read more »

Synthesizing My Feelings On The NRA

Synthesizing My Feelings On The NRA
In my line of work, gun violence prevention education and advocacy, I come across the NRA quite frequently in one way or another.  Whether they are calling me a “commie” and telling me how un-American I am (me…the 9-year Army veteran), or whether they’re extolling on the virtues of an armed citizenry…we come into contact.  As strange as it seems to me…I often find that the circles I run in, and the NRA, are enemies.  I find this strange because as “responsible gun owners”, they should want what I want; a reduction in death due to gun violence and a decrease of illegally owned guns. However, that’s not the case as I often find. The NRA, or National Rifle Association, describes itself as a civil liberties organization.  I simply refer to them as the corporate gun lobby…the lobbying arm of gun manufacturers; companies like Smith & Wesson, Ruger, Glock, etc.  The organization was started back in the Civil War, and was focused on increasing marksmanship.  You can actually view this short video that will give you a pretty good history of the NRA, courtesy of the Wall Street Journal...

My Response to John Kass and His Plans for the Feds

My Response to John Kass and His Plans for the Feds
Recently, John Kass, columnist for the Chicago Tribune, posted an article entitled “A plan for Trump’s feds in Chicago” in which he laid out a master plan to solve the gun violence problem here in Chicago.  The plan was originally conceived by Mr. Robert Milan,  former Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois, a former...
