Emery deserves shot as Hawks' starter

Emery deserves shot as Hawks' starter
In last night’s 8-4 loss to the “mighty” Edmonton Oilers, a lot of things went wrong for the Blackhawks.  Once again, the defense was standing around watching Oilers parked in front of the Hawks’ net.  When they did actually try do disrupt a play, it was with a weak poke check.  The forwards stopped backchecking... Goalie Emery to get camp tryout with Blackhawks

Goalie Emery to get camp tryout with Blackhawks
Wednesday afternoon, ESPN’s Scott Burnside published a report that free agent goaltender Ray Emery will be coming to Blackhawks camp on a tryout basis.  I think it’s a tremendous idea. In March 2010, when Emery was a member of the Philadelphia Flyers, he was diagnosed with a hip condition called avascular necrosis.  The injury required... Read more »

Blackhawks in great position to advance on mentally weak Canucks

I’m guilty, you’re guilty.  We are all guilty.  We gave up on the Hawks after 3 games, because we thought the players gave up after game 82.  We were wrong, and here we are…game seven in Vancouver.    At this point, how can the Blackhawks lose?  The Vancouver Canucks are everything they’d proven to be... Relax...the Blackhawks are still alive

Right now, Chicago hockey fans are panicked.  A 2-0 loss to the Vancouver Canucks has been amplified to a 7-0 blowout loss.  Please step off the ledge…the season isn’t over. The first period last night was a huge problem.  The Hawks had no answer for the Canucks’ onslaught.  It was men vs boys for 20... Read more »

Corey Crawford to start Monday in Buffalo

Corey Crawford will get his first start of the season tonight when the Blackhawks take on the Buffalo Sabres.  In 8 NHL games, Crawford has a 1-3 record, with a 2.60 GAA and a .909 save percentage.  This is his first stint as the Blackhawks “official” backup goaltender.

Niemi signs one year deal with Sharks

There's a good chance that Turco and Niemi could meet in the Stanley Cup Playoffs
Former Hawks goaltender Antti Niemi has signed with the San Jose Sharks. The deal will pay Niemi $2 million for 1 year.  When the season ends, Niemi will be an unrestricted free agent again.    Earlier in the offseason, the Sharks signed goalie Antero Niittymaki to a 2 year, $2 million deal.  It’s assumed Niemi... Turco may be better option for Blackhawks, regardless of Niemi ruling

As we all wait nervously for the announcement of Antti Niemi’s arbitration ruling this afternoon, rumors of a deal for another goaltender surfaced yesterday afternoon. The Score in Canada, along with other hockey sources, said that the Blackhawks have a one year, $1.5 million contract agreed to with former Stars goalie Marty Turco, should the... Read more »

Niemi's agent : Hawks would be "crazy" to let goaltender go

Wednesday morning, Antti Niemi’s agent Bill Zito joined the Mully and Hanley Morning Show on the Score, Sportsradio 670 in Chicago.  Antti Niemi makes a save vs the Flyers In the interview, he talked about the Hawks ongoing negotiations with the goaltender, and what it might take to bring him back.  He even goes as... Keeping Niemi not worth losing Sharp

Antti Niemi had a very good season for the Chicago Blackhawks last season.  He stepped up as a rookie and took the starting goaltender’s job for a team that’s only question was their netminding.  He made the saves he had to make, and a few more from time to time.  When it came down to... Despite game three loss, Hawks still in driver's seat

For the last 12 hours or so, I’ve gotten dozens of texts, emails, and phone calls from Hawk fans.  “Is it time to panic?”  “Why are the Hawks getting outplayed at times?” Well, the answer I give is always the same.  No, it’s not time to panic.  Keep in mind, the Flyers didn’t get their...
