Thursday, Sportsnet, one of Canada’s top sports networks, announced Jonathan Toews as their first nominee for Canadian Athlete of the Year.
Scott Morrisson, Sportsnet’s Executive Producer of Hockey, makes the case for Toews:
Obviously, Toews is one of the most decorated players in the NHL, even at the young age of 25. He’s won two Stanley Cups, a Conn Smythe Trophy for playoff MVP, an Olympic goal medal, the Selke Trophy for best defensive forward, and World Junior and World Championships. He is one of the most respected players in the NHL, and is well on his way to a Hall-of-Fame career.
