Sources close to the WSCR The Score have told me that Jonathan Toews’ “upper body injury” is indeed a concussion.
At this time, the severity of the concussion is not known, but it is believed to have been suffered early in the Blackhawks’ recent road trip. (UPDATE: a 2nd source has reported the injury occurred in the San Jose game on February 10th). The initial source also implied that Toews may have hidden his symptoms from the team to remain on the ice.
Toews missed yesterday’s morning skate and the Hawks’ 2-1 win over the Detroit Red Wings last night. He also missed today’s practice, and will miss tomorrow’s game vs the Dallas Stars.
Here’s hoping these sources, whom I trust, are misinformed here. The Hawks can not afford to lose Toews for any extended length of time. If there is a glimmer of hope, it’s the fact that Toews was able to play through the injury for a number of games, including all of the Hawks’ 3-1 win over St. Louis on Sunday.
