I Am Mother Nurture

I Am Mother Nurture

I am Mother Nurture.
I’m good at it. I’m excellent at listening to your problems, giving you insightful yet honest advice, holding your hand, hugging and empathizing. I’m so good, sometimes I offer it without you asking. Not trying to be bossy or controlling. I just want to help. Take it easy with me. My intentions are pure.

I am Mother Nurture.
I give awesome head and back scratching and rubs. I take my time. Make sure every inch is covered with scratch tracks. I keep my nails trimmed and medium length for optimum effect. I hit those problem places you can’t reach. I take my time. I enjoy it. So do you. It soothes sad or sleepy children. Relaxes tired husbands and causes one to drift into Neverland. Touch is one of my love languages. I speak it fluidly.

I am Mother Nurture.
I have lovingly fixed boo-boos, whether it’s a nasty scrape to the knee or a break of the heart. I’ve popped pimples and boils, I delight in seeing the ooze squirt out. I feel as if I’ve accomplished something. I immediately follow up with a warm compress. I help heal. I am quick to help you mend, because I care and I love.

I am Mother Nurture.
Sometimes the ones I nurture get tired of it. One would consider it smothering…clinging. I call it caring. But – hey, I am well intentioned. I back off. It’s okay. You see, I was built for mothering, and smothering the ones I love with my hugs and “there-theres” and pep talks, silent understandings and soft prayers. I am often taken for granted. But when I’m not there, I’m greatly missed.

I am Mother Nurture.
Though I may not always say it, I want nurturing too. I neglect to nurture myself. I want to be heard, encouraged, comforted and soothed. I too want my back scratched just as thoroughly as I do it. I want to be touched. I want the ones I love to be present, just like I am with them. Not obligated to be with me. I love mothering. My mother passed it down to me. She was quick to fix me up when I hurt. I miss her warmth. She now nurtures me from heaven. And I pass on the love.

    Edye

I pursued a satisfying career in the advertising industry, served as a volunteer mentor and parent educator at my two (now grown up) sons' schools and have actually stayed happily married for over a quarter of a century. However, my most gratifying achievement was raising my sons well. I'm not saying there wasn't a little bit of hell raising going on, but you live and learn. Now I'm passing the knowledge on to you. My goal is to turn these nuggets of wisdom into reference books for parents.
