Chicago-area holiday weekend pet events

Christmas is right around the corner and many shelters and rescues are getting in the spirit with special events. From adoption events aimed at getting more pets home for the holidays to shopping bazaars and special lighting ceremonies, there is plenty to choose from for holiday weekend pet events.

Friday, December 12th and Saturday, December 13th

Chicago – The Anti-Cruelty Society is hosting a Home for the Holidays adoption event through Saturday at their main adoption center at 530 North LaSalle and at their PetSmart Charities Everyday Adoption Center at 1101 South Canal Street. During this event, adoption fees will be waived on all dogs and cats that have been waiting for a home for longer than 60 days.

Saturday, December 12th

Chicago – Looking for some cook gifts, crafts and baked goodies for holiday gifts? Check out Chicago Canine Concierge’s Holiday Craft Bazaar and Bake Sale at Chicago Party Animals at 1133 West Fulton Market from 10am-3pm. This isn’t an off leash dog event, but it’s a great way to support – Chicagoland Bully Breed Rescue, True Hearts of Rottweiler Rescue (THORR), Blackdog All Breed Dog Rescue, CACC Transfer Team, Six Legs Foundation, Almost Home Foundation, Wags 2 Wishes Animal Rescue, Furever Rescue and Secondhand Snoots Rescue.

The open house runs from 4 to 8 pm at Tree House’s main location at 1212 West Carmen. There will be a bazaar, a tribute to pets lost and lots of music and fun. The entry fee is a bargain – a $5 donation. Stop by and support Chicago’s oldest no kill cat shelter. Sunday, December 13th

Waukegan – Pitch in to help WAGS (Waukegan Animals Getting Saved) and Spay and Stay as they host their last shelter build of the season to help the feral cat community caretakers in the area. The build will be from 10 am until 3 pm at Karger in the Raw at 405 Washington. (See past story about Stay and Spay in Waukegan.)

    Raining Cats and Dogs

I am a crazy cat lady and puppy mill warrior that blogs to advocate and educate about pet issues. In American animal controls, millions of pets are abandoned each year and an estimated 4 million die just because there are not enough homes. It truly seems like it’s Raining Cats and Dogs.
