Kick-off summer with these Chicago pet events

It’s not officially summer yet, but with Memorial Day under our belts it’s time a boat load of fun events to kick off the summer.  The Dog Days of Summer and Bow Wow Luau get things rolling this week while the South Suburban Humane Society tries to empty the shelter. So, get your pencils and scorecards ready and mark your calendars for these fun Chicago pet events.

Thursday, May 29

Dog Days of SummerChicago – Chicago Party Animals and Chicago Canine Concierge are teaming up for another fun event in the West Loop…and this one will be every Thursday for the rest of the summer. The Dog Days of Summer will be from 6-9 on Thursdays at CPA at 1133 West Fulton Market and feature off leash fun, cool pet charities, food trucks and pet vendors. Join Safe Humane Chicago and is sponsored by Rover-Time Dog Walking & Pet Sitting.

Chicago – Join Friends of Chicago Animal Care and Control at the Bow Wow Luau at Trader Todd’s at 3216 North Sheffield at 7 to 9 pm. Check out the build your own Tiki Bar, Luau Buffet and so much more. Advance tickets are $25 and good for three drinks and lots of food. Tickets are $30 at the door.

Chicago – Head out to the Beat Kitchen at 2100 West Belmont for a fun benefit concert to benefit New Leash on Life featuring The Damn Choir. Doors open at 7 with a silent auction and the concert starts at 8:30. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door.

Friday, May 30 to Sunday, June 1

Empty the ShelterChicago Heights – Look for your new best friend and help the South Suburban Humane Society at 1103 West End as they try to Empty the Shelter this weekend. All weekend long the adoption fees will be waived as SSHS tries to empty out the shelter – cats, dogs, kittens and puppies will all be looking for forever families. Last summer, they saved 121 lives their kick-off weekend and see how many lives they can save between now and Labor Day. (Noon to 8 on Friday and Saturday and noon to 5 on Sunday.

Saturday, May 31

Waukegan – Join the Girl Scouts of Waukegan as they lather up the cars and “Wash Cars for Wags (Waukegan Animals Getting Saved)” from 1 to 4. The car wash will be at the Ace Hardware at 3232 North Lewis Avenue (Lewis and Yardhouse).

Sunday, May 1

Hinsdale – Hinsdale Humane Society holds their annual Pet Walk from 9 to 1 pm at Katherine Legge Memorial Lodge at 5901 South County Line Road. Along with the walk, there will be booths with lots of great pet vendors, other no-profits and entertainment.

10341472_10152829974303012_1217093158965890471_nChicago – The Anti-Cruelty Society hosts a wedding ceremony for its two mascots – Grand and LaSalle at the ACS headquarters at 511 North LaSalle. There will be cake and coffee after the ceremony and all week long there will be great adoption promotions and giveaways including pet portrait packages from our friends at Fetch Portraits.
