Chicago pet events through May 18

Spring is here and there are many great Chicago pet events on tap this week to support animal rescue and pet families in need. If you love Dachshunds or Pugs, mark your calendar for next weekend as fans of both breeds hold annual celebrations. You can Shimmy, Wrangle or get a Tattoo to support rescue, check out holistic options or help kittens in need with a kitten shower.

Here’s a quick peek at the Chicago pet events for this week.

Thursday, May 15

Six Legs Foundation

Chicago – The Six Legs Foundation holds their official Chicago launch party at Fairways Bar at 1141 West Armitage from 7 t0 10 pm. Tickets are $45 and include beer via Lagunitas Brewing Co, soda and wine and some small plates featuring some of Fairways best recipes. The golf simulator will be open. Tickets in advance here.

Friday, May 16

Chicago – Realtors to the Rescue is holding a Cubs outing with a pre-game party at Deuces and Diamonds. The $25 ticket price includes game ticket, t-shirt and one drink at the party. Join the fun and learn how Realtors to the Rescue is helping Chicago pets in need. Part is at 11 and game at 1:20.

Friday, May 16 & Saturday, May 17

may 13Vernon Hills – Time to shop for a cause. Spay & Stay holds their annual rummage sale from 7 to 5 pm at 1821 Cascade Drive in Turtle Bay.

Spay & Stay offers low-cost spay and neuter options for stray and feral cats in Lake County.

Saturday, May 17 and Sunday, May 18

Chicago – Ready for a Spring tattoo or new piercing? Swing by Insight Studios at 1062 North Milwaukee for Lulu’s Locker Benefit Piercing and Tattoos. Between noon to 10 on Saturday and noon until 8 Sunday, 100 percent of proceeds help the pets taken in by Lulu’s.

Saturday, May 17

Cross town bark aroundWheaton – It’s off to the races and so much more at the 2014 Cross Town Bark Around supporting the MidWest Dachshund Rescue at the Dupage County Fairgrounds (all events except the races will be indoors). The event runs from 10 to 3 pm with a Foster parade, singing contest, costume contest and so more leading up to the wiener races at 1:30. There’s an auction, bake sale, photos with the winner mobile peddle car and so much more. Admission to the event is just $5 ad you get a hot dog and drink for that price. To enter your dog in the Wiener Races – its $10 and there are four divisions.

Morris – Join It’s a Pittie Rescue at Blackbird’s Second Annual Holistic Pet Fest from 10 to 2 pm in Canal Port Park. This free event is open to the public and features lots of great businesses that offer holistic pet products.

Kitten Shower

Chicago – It’s Kitten Season and that means it’s time to get ready for the onslaught of furry cuteness with kitten showers for various shelters and rescues to help care for all the new babies. Tree House Humane Society holds their Kitten Shower from 11 to 2 pm at Chicago Party Animals at 1133 West Fulton Market. There will be fun shower games, kittens, munchies, kittens, and prizes…and more. Donations from the wish list would be appreciated.

Manteno – Head out to the Stampede Saloon at 77 North Main Street for the Wrangling for Snoots Fundraiser to support Second Hand Snoots Rescue. No cover charge but there will be food, drinks dancing, silent auction and more. The party starts at 6 pm.

Shimmy for ShelterPalatine – Get ready to enjoy some shaking of the hips at Durty Nellies at 180 North Smith Street for Shimmy for the Shelter to support Heartland Animal Shelter. Doors open at 6 with the show getting underway at 6:30. Tickets are $20 at the door.

Chicago – Join Trio Animal Foundation for Rockin’ for Rescue: Vegas Style at U.S. Cellular Field starting at 7:30. There’s Vegas-style gambling, dinner, silent auction and more to benefit the veterinary care of the animals in need. Tickets are $100.

Sunday, May 18

Franklin, Wi. – Do you love Pugs? The place to be is the 10th Annual Pug Fest where over 1,600 pugs partied down a year ago. The party starts at 9:45 am and runs through 4 at the Milwaukee County Sports Complex at 6000 West Ryan Road. There will be a talent and costume contest and so much more. Adults are $8 and kids under ten are $3 with parking $3.

Countryside – Illinois Harley-Davidson hosts a pet Adopt-a-Thon at 9950 West Joliet Road from 10 to 4 pm. Lots of rescues with adoptable pets including It’s a Pittie, Peace for Pits and other groups.
