Creative paws at Harmony House for Cats hit Day at Avondale

If you’re looking for a very cool family-friendly art fest for the weekend head to A Day in Avondale from 11 to 7 p.m. on Saturday. This cool multicultural event in the Avondale neighborhood highlights the eclectic art in the area with pop up stores and regular venues including paw drawn art at Harmony House for Cats.

Stop at one of the two info booths – Diversey/Kimball/Milwaukee or Belmont/California – for maps and info. Then hop a free rickshaw or just walk the neighborhood to see what is going on.

For cat lovers, the best part is a very special art show at Harmony House for Cats between 1 and 4 p.m. There will be free art activities for kids and adults alike and a special art showing from the creative paws (meow) at Harmony House.

There will be five-minute mini tours of the eco-friendly shelter. Draw or color a picture of your own cat to display in the shelter window or make a cool button to wear. This is the first time Harmony House for Cats has participated in the annual fest and they hope to make this a must visit event in the years to come.

Walk for Cats

Also mark Sunday, October 6 on your calendar for the shelter’s 31st Annual Walk for Cats. Registration is at 11 a.m. at the shelter at 2914 North Elston in Chicago. Register for $30 in advance online or for $35 the day of.

Wafer is one of the many cats in the care of Harmony House that will be helped through the Walk for Cars.

You have a choice of a two-mile walk to help the cats or a six-block walk for those that would like a more leisurely Sunday. Wear your cat ears (or buy a pair at the event) and check out the shelter and all the cool cats looking for homes. Well-behaved, leashed dogs are welcome to participate in the walk and may “hang out” in the courtyard afterwards.

    Raining Cats and Dogs

I am a crazy cat lady and puppy mill warrior that blogs to advocate and educate about pet issues. In American animal controls, millions of pets are abandoned each year and an estimated 4 million die just because there are not enough homes. It truly seems like it’s Raining Cats and Dogs.
