I gave myself the gift of a two day sewing marathon

I was lucky enough to turn 63 last Thursday and I gave myself the gift of a two day sewing marathon. It was fabulous! My present from my husband was taking me to Quilt week in Paducah, this was my present from me to me!

2daysI started off on Wednesday by getting dressed, then I briefly checked my computer while eating breakfast. I did not bring my phone up with me to the studio. I did not shower. I did not pass go, wait, what? Kathy, pay attention!

I cleaned up my space and got everything organized. I knew what I wanted to accomplish and didn’t need distractions. I first turned my attention to the jungle quilt.

I put on the borders, yay, good progress. I did the back quickly and got it on the Gammill. This marathon was working.

I put the Halloween blocks I had left over from last year’s table runners on the design wall. I got out fabrics for Henry’s next bib and some heart quilts. Then, I did some quilting.

My husband brought me food home at some point and I ate. I also came down to have coffee and use the facilities. This was a kind of cycle.

That night I wrote two blog posts, for Thursday morning and Friday morning. When I fell into bed way after midnight. I was pretty happy!

Thursday was my actual birthday so it was a fun day on social media but I got up to the sewing studio pretty early. I worked on quilting, the bibs, the Halloween squares and I turned a long sleeve shirt into a short sleeved one.bday re 3

My daughter came over with coffee and my grandchildren wished me a happy birthday. Awww, that coffee was wonderful. Kidding, I loved seeing the kids.

I finally took a shower for those of you who noticed this has not been accomplished. My sweet husband took me out to one of our favorite restaurants and we celebrated with fancy fruity drinks, sans booze. What a great birthday!

bday re 1Giving myself all the time to just do exactly what I wanted to do felt great! And my celebrating was not over. My youngest flew in from Central Asia on Friday.

She had looked on my wish list on Amazon and ordered me this.  It’s a magnetic tool that has a light on the end. It telescopes and will allow me to pick up pins, scissors or anything metal that fall into inconvenient places.

Clever, yes? It was recommended by a fellow quilter at our guild meeting. bday re 2

And that’s not all! Look at the darling clock my oldest got me, also on my Amazon wish list. Isn’t it adorable?

I got both of these gifts today as we celebrated Father’s day and my birthday at my daughter’s house. Man, that woman can cook, what a brunch. I liked celebrating everything all together.

bday re 4And don’t worry, I got cake!

Sew happy!
