Lucretia Mott: Feminist Firebrand

Born today: Lucretia Mott.

Feminist, orator, abolitionist.

Let what she did be not forgot.

Though a line’s not enough for such a long list.*

  • To wit:
  • One of the early leaders of the women’s rights movement
  • One of the founders of the Philadelphia Female Anti-Slavery Society
  • Co-wrote the Declaration of Sentiments in 1848 for the First Women’s Rights Convention in Seneca Falls, New York, which said “all men and women are created equal”
  • One of the founders of co-educational Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania in 1864
Lucretia Mott — PROTEST PEARLS

“I long for the day my sisters will rise and occupy the sphere to which they are called by their high nature and destiny.”
