Born today: Lucretia Mott.
Feminist, orator, abolitionist.
Let what she did be not forgot.
Though a line’s not enough for such a long list.*
- To wit:
- One of the early leaders of the women’s rights movement
- One of the founders of the Philadelphia Female Anti-Slavery Society
- Co-wrote the Declaration of Sentiments in 1848 for the First Women’s Rights Convention in Seneca Falls, New York, which said “all men and women are created equal”
- One of the founders of co-educational Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania in 1864
“I long for the day my sisters will rise and occupy the sphere to which they are called by their high nature and destiny.”
