It’s time to divorce

  • No reason he should still be there, but your last sentence demonstrates the problem. Biden can't hire or fire the Postmaster General, the Postal Board of Governors does (as confirmed by CNN, which I saw after typing the first sentence).

  • Thank you, AW! Thank you, Jack, I didn't know about this Board of Governors, either.

  • Could he be impeached? Is there a way for the president to tell the board of governors about complaints? (If so, I'll write to Pennsylvania Avenue myself!) Well said.

  • The three Biden nominees were confirmed by the Senate on May 23, just over two months ago; five of the seven are now Democrats. There are probably procedural steps involved, but they may act soon to put AW's recommendation into operation.

  • In reply to jnorto:

The Board of Governors met today. Maybe this is taps for the obnoxious Trumper.

  • Reading the USPS Leadership page, it isn't as simple as it appears. First, on the 5/4 Dem/Rep split, "Not more than five of the nine may belong to the same political party." Clicking on each name, 6 out of 9 are Trump appointees, so 2 of the Dems. are questionable. Despite each having a term of 7 years, there are no Obama era appointees, and several holding unexpired terms, which indicates to me that no one really wants the job.

  • In reply to jack:

And of the 9 seven are old white men. Nothing wrong with old white men. I'm one of them. But the board should have more women and Blacks on it, considering its work force.

  • In reply to Aquinas wired:

However, the qualification is "They shall be chosen solely based on their experience in the field of public service, law or accounting. However, at least four of the governors shall be chosen solely based on their demonstrated ability in managing organizations or corporations (in either the public or private sector) that employ at least 50,000 employees." Now, that may be as meaningless as similar qualifications for CTA President, but may explain the composition.

The last Chicago postmaster was Wanda Prater, a Black woman, but she was incompetent.

  • Apparently the Board had its first meeting yesterday. It was testy.

  • In reply to jnorto:

The best I could figure out from that is that they were testy about performance standards, not over retaining or dumping DeJoy. Note also the comments about "Chairman Ron Bloom, a Trump-appointed Democrat who has endorsed DeJoy and his plan..."
