Is it time for a new Chicago song? Measure this.

Some say Chicago needs a new song.

I can’t say whether they’re right or wrong

But I’ll never be sold

On rejecting the old

Just because a new one comes along.

  • Well put! Thanks for joining in on the topic!

  • Now that this has been broken open
We don't need no song by a guy from Hoboken.

I suggest something from a member of the Illinois Rock & Roll Museum’s Hall of Fame. There's also "Sweet Home Chicago," "Lake Shore Drive" (Ailotta, Haynes & Jeremiah), and I suppose something from Kanye.

On a related note, another song that needs to be scrapped or updated is "Go Cubs Go." You can't catch any of it on WGN.

I like the songs you suggest, but the advantage "Chicago" has is that it can be picked up by almost any pianist or casual singer or musical group and it will be recognized in the first phrase.

  • In reply to jnorto:

In that respect, it's similar to a holiday song. I would think both of the "oldies" are included in what's call The American Songbook, along with so many others. These are undying musical numbers that have withstood the test of time.

    Went, Cubs, Went?
